Window tint is measured in VLT — Visible Light Transmission. A lower number means darker film: 5% VLT lets 5% of light through, 70% lets most of it through. Here's how each shade looks on a Porsche, and where each one sits within Illinois window tint law.
What tint is legal on a Porsche in Illinois?
Here's what most shops get wrong: Illinois law (625 ILCS 5/12-503) treats your 911 and your Cayenne differently. Sports cars and saloons are passenger vehicles; the Macan and Cayenne are classed as multipurpose vehicles, which are allowed far darker rear glass. That distinction is exactly why the choice between 35% and 20% window tint comes down to which Porsche you drive. We install each model to its own legal limit — no tickets, no re-dos.

Illinois also offers passenger cars an alternative pairing — 50% VLT on the front side windows with 30% on the rear — and dual side mirrors are required whenever the rear window is tinted.
